I Just cleaned out a stuck sewage pump and it is running fine, is there a delay in the shutoff of the pump?

The pump was clogged with an unidentifiable m of something but when I removed the pump, cleaned it out and reset the pump it worked fine. But it did not shut off when the tank was empty. It is used to pump my home waste water from below grade to the city sewer under the street in front of my house and I don't know if there is supposed to be a delay in the shut off or if I screwed up one of the two float switches. I ume the lower one is for the pump and the higher one is for the tank alarm. Any ideas?
