Do I need to use filters in my return grilles if I have a media filter at the front of my a/c unit?

I had a media filter installed, it is connected to my a/c unit. The return grilles are before the media filter. do i need to put filters in the return grilles. I thought maybe I don't need them since the media filter is after the return grille filters.
