Absolutely don't settle or compromise, but also don't set your sights so high that they are unachievable. You cannot force yourself to love someone if there is no spark. Perhaps your desperation is apparent to the girls you like and that can be a turnoff. It might be cliche but once you stop looking the right one will come along.
